NightOwl Home Sleep Screen - clinically validated, low cost alternative - $75

  • About NightOwl

The NightOwl is a clinically validated and FDA-approved device that detects sleep apnea symptoms with a sensor that attaches to your fingertip. It is a Type IV device that uses both an accelerometer and photoplethysmography (PPG) to record the following metrics:

Actigraphy: a built-in accelerometer tracks actigraphy, which is a measure of body motion. By monitoring limb movements, the device is able to determine when the user is asleep or awake.

Blood oxygen level: The device uses PPG technology to monitor blood oxygen level, which decreases during a sleep apnea event.

Peripheral arterial tone (PAT): PAT is a measure of changes in pulse volume. A person’s heart rate and blood pressure decrease during an apnea event and increase when they begin breathing again, making PAT a valuable tool for the detection of OSA.

Apnea-hypopnea index (AHI): AHI is a scale used to measure OSA severity that’s calculated by dividing the total number of episodes of shallow or halted breathing by the total number of hours a person is asleep. The NightOwl uses the three aforementioned bodily metrics to calculate an AHI score.

Rx is required, and a board-certified sleep specialist interpretation is included. Results are typically returned within 7 days.

Useful for anyone who is suspected of having obstructive sleep apnea

FAQ

  • Every night wipe down the cushion with an unscented baby wipe or warm washcloth to remove facial oils.

Every week, clean your mask and supplies:

    1. Remove the CPAP filter and thump it to remove any dust. Do NOT get it wet!

    2. Disconnect the mask, tubing and water tub from your CPAP machine.

    3. Disassemble your mask into its three parts: headgear, cushion and frame.

    • Using a gentle soap (like baby shampoo), hand wash the headgear, cushion, frame, tubing and water tub to remove any oils or build-up.

    • Rinse with warm, drinking-quality water.

    • Place the supplies on top of a towel and allow to dry.

-Distilled water is preferred for use in the water tub

-Don’t use alcohol of any kind or soap with heavy scents

  • When you start your CPAP journey, remember that your physician prescribed the pressure based on your study results. So there is a reason the pressure was set there.

Over time, you should discuss your therapy with your physician and if indicated, your pressure can be adjusted.

Also, we carry a new product called the V-Com which is essentially “CPAP training wheels.” The V-Com softens inspiratory flow, helping patients adjust to their CPAP pressure faster & easier. A prescription is required, so give your physician a visit to discuss how this new product may help your treatment.

  • The ResMed AirMini™ is one of the most compact and travel-friendly CPAP machines on the market, offering

powerful sleep therapy in a device small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. However, unlike traditional CPAP

machines, the AirMini uses a proprietary setup that can be confusing regarding mask and tubing compatibility.

    A. Proprietary FitPack System

Out of the box, the AirMini is only compatible with specific ResMed masks that are part of their AirMini Mask

Setup Packs (FitPacks). These FitPacks include custom tubing and a HumidX™ waterless humidification system, and are available for the following masks:

•AirFit™ P10 for AirMini (nasal pillows)

    •AirFit™ N20 / AirTouch™ N20 (nasal mask)

    •AirFit™ F20 / AirTouch™ F20 (full face mask)

•AirFit™ N30 for AirMini (nasal cradle)

    •AirFit™ F30 (full face hybrid)

These FitPacks are easy to use and ensure optimal performance with the AirMini’s built-in algorithms and

humidification options. However, they limit mask and tubing flexibility, which can be a challenge for users who already have a preferred mask.

    B. Using Your Existing Mask & Tubing: The Third-Party Adapter Option

You'll need a third-party adapter if you want to use your existing CPAP mask and standard tubing. Several

aftermarket solutions connect directly to the AirMini’s air outlet, converting it into a standard size that can accommodate any standard 22mm CPAP hose and mask.

    Keep in mind:

    • You’ll lose access to HumidX humidification (unless your mask is compatible and you use the proprietary

    tubing).

    • Pressure and comfort settings may feel slightly different compared to a standard CPAP due to AirMini’s unique algorithms.

    • ResMed does not make these adapters and may not be supported by their warranty or customer service.

    • These adapters are not officially supported and may cause unwanted leaks.

Which Option Is Right for You?

    • Choose a FitPack if you want plug-and-play compatibility with the HumidX system and no guesswork.

    • Choose a third-party adapter if you prefer your current mask and don’t mind forgoing ResMed’s built-in humidification.
